As September approaches we say goodbye to the dog days of summer. For many of us, September marks a return to the routine, back to school, or back to the seriousness of work after an easy going August. As we begin to settle into routines this fall, think of ways to challenge the norm and expand your routine to include local charities. Pack a brown bag lunch a few days a week and donate the savings to a local not for profit you are passionate about. Find ways to micro-volunteer a few hours a week: spend time with animals in a shelter, or help a senior in your community with yard work. Don’t forget your day job by offering your professional services to a charity free of charge: create a poster, help with bookkeeping or good old manual labour can always be used. The benefits to your community are tremendous when we all participate. This year make “Give.Volunteer.Act” part of the autumn routine. It’s good for the soul!
