Periods are a fact of life. But accessing much-needed menstrual products can be difficult for many in Powell River and the qathet region. This past year, COVID has made it even harder.
You can help change that. |
Lack of access to menstrual products is a common issue in our community.
We’ve done the research. Powell River was part of a recent study that found more than a quarter of people who menstruate in B.C. have gone through a whole period without having any products whatsoever. Parents are making difficult decisions between buying tampons, or buying food for their families. Teens are feeling isolated and ashamed. Even going to work, school or grocery shopping is hard when you don't have access to tampons, pads or a menstrual cup.
United Way's Period Promise is helping out.
Through the Hygiene Cupboard program, we stock period products at social agencies in Powell River and Texada. Products are available free of charge to anyone who needs them. Right now, we have a shortage of tampons, pads and cups. This year's Period Promise campaign can change that -- but we need the community's help!
Get involved and make a difference.
United Way's Period Promise Campaign is taking place from May 6 to June 3, and we're asking everyone to be part of the solution. It's easy to help:

United Way's Period Promise Campaign is taking place from May 6 to June 3, and we're asking everyone to be part of the solution. It's easy to help:
- Make a financial donation. All donations will be used to purchase pads, tampons, and menstrual cups. Click here to donate!
- Donate products. Tampons, pads or menstrual cups can be dropped off at our office above RONA. Call us at 604-485-2132 to arrange a time.
- Organize a Period Promise campaign. Get a group together at your school, workplace, or union, or offer your porch as a socially distant drop-off for your neighbours.
